Child Proof
Innocent children are in need of protection. It is the responsibility of adults to see that they stay out of harm’s way. Little kids are eager to explore their new world. While this freedom encourages healthy development, they can easily get into dangerous situations. Unfortunately, children die every year from accidents, many of which are preventable.
It is imperative that any area a child has access to be baby proofed. This must be done before the infant becomes mobile, which is typically around 6 months of age. Because children vary in their growth, it is a good idea to prepare your home well before your child reaches 6 months of age. If the child starts crawling at an early age, you don’t want to be caught unprepared.
Make sure to place covers on all electrical outlets as well latches on all cabinets. Your hot water heater should not be set above 130 degrees Fahrenheit. This ensures that the home water will not come out scalding. All poisons, cleaners, chemicals, and medicines should be stored in their original packaging and locked up. Keep the number for the Poison Control Center on your fridge in case of emergency.
Install gates at stairs and windows. Protect any sharp edges of furniture and make sure that all pieces of furniture are anchored down so that they will not tip over. All cords should be kept out of reach, and no breakable items should be left at reachable levels. Remove all small items that your child could choke on from the area.
