Jet Ski Safety Tips
Once the weather permits, it can be lots of fun to bring out the jet skis and ride on the open water. Whether you ride on the lake, the river, or in the bay, there are risks of injury in any water. Jet skis can achieve very high speeds and, although they promote a fun time, they can cause pain as well. To keep the fun going and avoid injury, remember the following safety tips:
- Always wear your life jacket. You are required by law in many states to wear a life jacket while on a jet ski and for good reason. While riding at high speeds and whipping around the water it is easy for you or another passenger to be slung off of the jet ski. Wearing a life jacket makes it easy for you stay on top of the water so you can hop back on or wait for someone to pick you up.
- Never drive by yourself if you are not an experienced driver. To get the hang of driving a jet ski, bring an experienced driver along with you as a passenger to offer advice and to help you if you get in a jam. Once you’ve gained experience driving with a passenger, you can move on to driving by yourself.

Injuries are not unavoidable on jet skis. They are extremely powerful vehicles and, as humans, we don’t always make the best choices. It is unfortunate that someone’s negligent decision could injure others, but it happens.
If you have been injured on a jet ski by the negligent actions of another, you deserve to be compensated for those injuries. To begin fighting for the money you deserve, contact Chicago jet ski accident lawyers Friedman & Bonebrake at 312-466-8200 to schedule an initial consultation.
