Rent Withheld
Personal injury lawyers face a variety of lawsuits because of conflicts that arise between people. One such conflict that often occurs is when tenants do not pay their landlord rent. This is one of the several types of landlord-tenant conflicts that arise.
Tenants may not pay their rent for several reasons. They may believe that they do not have to pay it because the landlord violated the terms of the lease; as a result, tenants move out while landlords deny any wrongdoing.
Another reason tenants may not pay their rent is because they cannot afford to pay it. This will put them in violation of the lease and liable to be evicted and still be in debt to the landlord for the total amount of rent due to the landlord, but the tenants may choose to stay in the landlord’s residence anyway. Or, tenants may not pay rent because they are negligent and irresponsible.
Sometimes, the tenant’s reason for not paying the rent is a valid reason. Other times, however, the landlord may be in the right in demanding rent from a tenant. Of course, when such a conflict arises passions are likely to flair and each side will defend itself without admitting any fault or wrongdoing.
