Valentine’s Day Safety
Valentine’s Day is not a holiday that people commonly associate with safety risks. However, many of this holiday’s traditions can pose a certain amount of danger. If you and your partner are making plans for Valentine’s Day this year, be sure to keep these safety tips in mind. Otherwise your romantic day might take an unexpected and unpleasant turn.
Be careful with candles. If a lit candle tips over or burns to the bottom of the wick, your evening could be interrupted with a fire and potential injuries. Keep a close eye on all open flames, no matter how small, and make sure they are far away from any flammable materials.
If you haven’t used your fireplace recently, make sure it is in working order before beginning any celebrations. A malfunctioning fireplace can lead to fires or carbon monoxide poisoning.
Many people celebrate Valentine’s Day by cooking a dinner for their partner. If this is your plan, be careful to observe basic kitchen safety. Do not use the same utensils to prepare raw and cooked meat; keep a close eye on any containers on the stove or in the oven; and keep a working fire extinguisher nearby.
