Firework Safety
Few things are more enjoyable than waving sparklers or watching a fireworks display on a pleasant evening. But for all their beauty, fireworks can also be a real danger. A Note on the Law
The following kinds of consumer fireworks are legal in Illinois: sparklers, smoke devices, trick noisemakers, snake/glow worm pellets, and plastic or paper caps.
The following kinds of fireworks are specifically banned: bombs, Roman candles, firecrackers, skyrockets and torpedoes.
You must have a license and adequate insurance to set off a fireworks display.
Firework Safety
Please follow the following regulations if you use fireworks.
- Keep a hose or buckets of water handy in case of fire.
- Do not touch fireworks while under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
- Do not try to re-light a “dud” firework. Soak it in water and give up on it.
- Do not alter or combine fireworks. Use them as directed.
- Only people over the age of twelve should be allowed to use sparklers or other fireworks involving flames.
- The person shooting fireworks should wear safety glasses; spectators should stay a safe distance away.
- Do not attempt to make your own fireworks. This can be illegal.
