Traveling with Children
Traveling with your children can be a fun and rewarding experience. It is charming to watch children as they explore and learn about a new place, and the experiences you have helped create for them can last a lifetime.
Unfortunately, while there are many enjoyable things about family trips, there are also many dangers. At the offices of Chicago personal injury lawyers Friedman & Bonebrake, we are deeply concerned about the safety of all of our clients. To keep your children safe while keeping your mind at ease, please follow these safety tips while traveling.
- Teach your children a plan to follow if they get lost, such as calling your cell phone or looking for a police officer. Work out whichever plan is most effective for your family. Whenever you leave the hotel room, make sure your children remember the plan.
- Keep recent photographs of your children in your purse or wallet, in case your children get lost and you need to ask a police officer for help.
- When possible, assign one parent or older child to keep an eye on young children while you make hotel arrangements, speak with bus or cab drivers, etc.
- Although some parents object to them, harnesses can be a safe and comfortable way to keep toddlers from wandering off in airports, theme parks, and other crowded locations. Think about whether using one would be best for your family.
- Your hotel room should have a fire escape plan posted in it. Familiarize yourself with this plan, and make sure the children know it as well.
