The mother of two girls killed in a collision between their vehicle and an Illinois State Police cruiser has filed suit against the officer involved, the state of Illinois, and the Illinois State Police.
According to the lawsuit, a police cruiser driven by trooper Matt Mitchell was responding to the scene of another accident, driving at over 120 mph, when it crossed the median of I-64, slamming into the Mazda 6 sedan driven by Jessica and Kelli Uhl, killing both girls. Mitchell, who is recovering well from his injuries, faces charges of reckless homicide for his role in the accident.
The lawsuit, filed by Kimberly Dorsey, the mother of both deceased girls, is seeking $24 million in damages as compensation for the accident and deaths.
