EIU Football Coach Killed in I-57 Car Crash

The offensive line coach for Eastern Illinois University waskilled in a car accident on Interstate 57 on Sunday.

Jeffrey Hoover and another member of the coaching staff, aswell as members of both men’s families, were traveling back to Charleston aftera football game at Southern Illinois University, Cabondale, when their vehicleswerved off the road to avoid a deer. Member’s of Hoover’s family and EIU strengthcoach, 29 year-old Erich Cash, were injured in the accident.

Leigh Hammer, the Effingham County Coroner, pronounced JeffreyHoover dead at the scene, resulting from blunt force trauma to the head and chest.

Other passengers were transported via helicopter to St.Anthony’s Memorial Hospital and Carle Foundation Hospital in Urbana.

43 year-old Penny Hoover and 34 year-old Sheri Cash are bothlisted in fair condition.

Construction Worker Killed in Forklift Accident

A Chicago construction worker was killed Monday night when hit in the head by a forklift.  The accident occurred in an industrial park just before midnight on November 23.

It is currently unclear why the man didn't see the forklift, or why the forklift operator did not see the construction worker.  According to reports, the operator is being cooperative, who has passed both an alcohol and drug test.

4 Drivers Injured in 5-Car Accident on Route 59

Four drivers suffered minor injuries after a five-caraccident on Illinois Route 59 on Tuesday morning.

The Bartlett Police Department responded to crash at theintersection of Illinois Route 59 and South Park Place Drive shortly before 6a.m. Police said a 31-year-old man from Algonquin was driving a blue 1999 ChevyS10 southbound on Route 59 when his vehicle struck a black 2006 Mazda whilechanging lanes. The impact of the crash sent both vehicles into the northboundlanes of traffic. A tan 2006 Chevy Malibu was sideswiped, a black 2004 AudiQuattro sustained front end damage and a black 1990 Ford F250 was also damaged.

The drivers of the 2006 Mazda, 2006 Chevy, 2004 Audi and the1999 Chevy suffered minor injuries in the accident and were transported to St.Alexius Medical Center in Hoffman Estates by the Bartlett Fire ProtectionDistrict. All four drivers were listed in good and stable condition.

Police do not believe alcohol or drug impairment played arole in the crash.

Grandmother Killed After Being Hit by Pick-Up Truck

A woman is dead after being hit by a pick-up truck whilecrossing the street with her family.

According to police, a whit pick-up truck struck threepedestrians near the intersection of Chicago and Juarez shortly before 6:30p.m. Friday.

A grandmother in her 50’s suffered most of the impact andwas transported to Laredo Medical Center where she later died of severeinternal injuries.

The man and little girl that were with the woman sufferedminor injuries, but the actions of the grandfather may have saved the life oftheir granddaughter as he pulled her away from the oncoming vehicle.

The driver of the pick-up truck stopped and administered aidto the victims. Polic say the driver did not show any signs of intoxication.

A Chicago Police officer said “Since there is a death inthis case, a sample of his blood will be tested to make sure that there are notoxins in his body that would inhibit his ability to drive a vehicle.”

Investigators continue to look into the crash.

7 Injured in 2-Car Cicero Ave. Crash

Seven people were injured in a crash on the Southwest Sideof Chicago on Sunday.

Chicago Fire Department spokesman Joseph Roccasalva said aNissan Quest and a Ford Focus were involved in an accident near 48thStreet and Cicero Avenue shortly before 12:10 p.m. The Fire Department calledan Emergency Medical Services plan in response to the crash, which brings atleast five ambulances to the scene.

Seven people were injured, four seriously. Four people were transportedin serious-to-critical condition, two were taken to Stroger Hospital and two toMount Sinai Hospital, Roccasalva said.

One person was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center inOak Lawn in fair-to-serious condition, and two people were transported ingood-to-fair condition to Holy Cross Hospital.

Police continue to investigate the accident.
