7 injured in Car Crash on Chicago's North Side

by Administrator 30. March 2010 09:25

Seven people were injured, four critically, in an early-morning crash Sunday on Chicago's North Side.

According to Larry Langford, a spokesman with the Chicago Fire Department, six people were transported to Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center and another to northwestern Memorial Hospital following an early morning crash Sunday. Four of the injured people are listed in critical condition.

A spokesman for the Chicago Police Department, Robert Perez, said the driver of an Audi was attempting to navigate a left turn onto Western Avenue when a Lexus sedan smashed into the vehicle at the Irving Park Road intersection. Police responded to a call of an accident shortly before 4:20 a.m., Perez said. Following a preliminary investigation police determined that the Audi's driver failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

The driver of the Lexus was not wearing a seatbelt, according to Langford, and was sent through the car's windshield. Firefighters had to extract two people their vehicle(s).

Perez said there were four men and one woman, ages 25 to 33, in the Audi at the time of the crash.

Langford said the intersection was wet from rain at the time of the crash; however Perez said it is unclear if bad weather, drugs, or alcohol were factors in the accident.
