by Administrator 19. April 2010 09:18

Two men from Marengo and Poplar Grove, Illinois were hospitalized after an early morning car accident Friday.

According to officials with the McHenry County Sheriff's Department, a 1993 Acura Integra was traveling west in the 20800 block of River Road shortly after 12:40 a.m Friday when it partially left the north side of the roadway, crossed the double yellow center line, and careened of the south side of the road. The acura rolled over multiple times, before striking a tree.

Police have charged the driver, 20 year-old Fred J. Rose, with driving under the influence of alcohol, driving while license is revoked, improper lane usage, and no proof of insurance. Rose was transported by helicopter to Condell Hospital in Libertyville following the accident, where he has since been upgraded from critical to serious condition. His passenger, a 17 year-old male, whose name has not been released, was transported to OSF Saint Anthony Medical Center. His condition is not known.

Authorities said the vehicle did not have airbags, and both occupants were secured only by chest belts, not the lap portion of the safety belts.

Sheriff: High Speeds to Blame in Crash that Killed Teens

by Administrator 12. April 2010 10:39

A sheriff in western Illinois believes high-speed driving is to blame for a single-vehicle crash that killed two teen girls.

According to Jeff Standard, the Fulton County Sheriff, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been a factor in a Saturday night car crash that killed two teenage girls. Authorities say the girls were driving fast on a country road when the driver lost control and crashed into a utility pole. Rachel Anderson of Avon, Illinois and Anissa Morgan of Racine, Wisconsin.

Standard said the car was driven by another teen, 16 year-old Megan Markley of Avon. She was transported to a Peoria hospital for treatment after the crash. Another passenger, 14 year-old Levi Sloan was also hospitalized and is listed in fair condition.

Chicago Man Pleads Guilty to Charges in Crash that Killed Best Friend

by Administrator 6. April 2010 10:02

A man in Chicago pleaded guilty Wednesday to aggravated drunk driving and reckless homicide in connection with a Jue 2009 car crash that killed his best friend.

According to court documents, 19 year-old Onofrio "Josh" Lorusso could face up to 14 years in prison after pleading guilty to charges stemming from a car accident that killed 18 year-old Cameron Godee of West Chicago. According to Assistant Kane County State's Attorney Dave Belshan, Lorusso was driving his Ford Explorer around 77 mph in a 25-mph zone shortly before 3:30 a.m. on June 14, 2009.  Lorusso lost control of the vehicle on a curve, striking a mailbox and two trees along Royal Fox Drive in St. Charles, Belshan said.

Two passengers in the backseat of the Ford were injured in the crash.

A hospital blood test revealed that Lorusso's blood-alcohol content was almost three times the legal limit. The test also showed traces of marijuana in his system.

Belshan said Lorusso was verbally combative with police officers on the night of the crash, and refused to help them identify the other occupants of the vehicle. The Chicago collision was a shock to friends and family.

Lorusso's attorney, Vincent Solano, said his client entered a cold plea, meaning prosecutors and the defense were unable to negotiate a sentence, which will be left up to Judge Timothy Sheldon.
