Boeing settles runway accident lawsuit

by Administrator 20. January 2011 16:09

More than 12 passengers that were injured in a runway crash at the Denver International Airport filed a lawsuit against Boeing after the accident.  The accident occurred in December 2008 when the Continental Flight 1404 ran off the runway and caught fire.  Six people were seriously injured in the airplane accident and dozens more suffered various minor injuries.

Investigators blamed the cause of the accident on pilot error and strong winds.  In the lawsuit, the passengers claim that Boeing was negligent in their design of the plane, specifically blaming its "directional control mechanism".  The details of the passengers' recent settlements with Boeing have not been released.

Chicago Bears player involved in rear-end accident

by Administrator 9. November 2010 18:28

Earl Bennett, wide receiver for the Chicago Bears, was involved in a rear-end car accident on Monday morning.  According to Illinois State Police, the football player was on the Ohio Street feeder ramp off of Interstate 90 when a man driving a 1998 Pontiac Sunfire failed to slow and rear-ended Bennett's 1973 Chevrolet Impala.  After colliding, both cars continued into a wall.  The accident occurred at 12:11 A.M..

Investigations have determined that alcohol was not a factor in the accident.  Sources say the player suffered minor whiplash but he recently tweeted that he was simply thankful to be alive.  He was able to make it to practice and workout the next day.

3-car accident leaves Peoria man dead

by Administrator 25. October 2010 15:05

A three-car accident occurred earlier this month in Will County on Interstate 55.  Three men suffered injuries in the accident and 44-year old Darren Wade was tragically killed.

The accident occurred after Wade and another driver had been in a minor accident in the southbound lanes of Interstate 55.  A third vehicle then rear ended Wade's Ford Mustang near Illinois Highway 59.  Paramedics pronounced Wade dead at the scene of the accident.

After the initial collision, the other driver and passengers involved stepped out of their vehicle to assess the damage.  The three men were hit after the second collision and suffered minor injuries.

Our thoughts and prayers are with Wade's family and friends during this difficult time.

Chicago Police Promote Motorcycle Awareness Month

by Administrator 1. June 2010 14:04

Monday ended the month of May and Motorcycle Awareness Month, but Chicago Police hope their Memorial Day message inspired both motorcyclists and drivers to always remember to take the appropriate precautions when driving.

Chicago police departments came together for a driving safety course to improve their driving skills and hopefully inspire the community to do the same.  WGN correspondent Tom Negovan joined, a motorcyclist himself, to learn more and practice on their test course.  Negovan was involved in a motorcycle crash last September and had not ridden since his accident, until Monday.  Negovan stated, "years of riding and two safety courses couldn't have saved me from a crash that wrote-off my bike and nearly ended my life".

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describes the "textbook" motorcycle crash as happening at intersections where a vehicle that cannot see the motorcyclist cuts them off, usually when turning left.

In 2008, and estimated 96,000 motorcyclists were injured while driving.

Sheriff: High Speeds to Blame in Crash that Killed Teens

by Administrator 12. April 2010 10:39

A sheriff in western Illinois believes high-speed driving is to blame for a single-vehicle crash that killed two teen girls.

According to Jeff Standard, the Fulton County Sheriff, neither drugs nor alcohol appear to have been a factor in a Saturday night car crash that killed two teenage girls. Authorities say the girls were driving fast on a country road when the driver lost control and crashed into a utility pole. Rachel Anderson of Avon, Illinois and Anissa Morgan of Racine, Wisconsin.

Standard said the car was driven by another teen, 16 year-old Megan Markley of Avon. She was transported to a Peoria hospital for treatment after the crash. Another passenger, 14 year-old Levi Sloan was also hospitalized and is listed in fair condition.
