Braking Software Causing Problems in New Prius

by Administrator 4. February 2010 11:33

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration has receivedmore than 100 complaints alleging poor brake performance in the new 2010 ToyotaPrius.

A statement from the National Highway Traffic SystemAdministration said the agency “has received a number of complaints about thepotential defect affecting the brake system in Toyota’s Prius hybrid and isconducting field work to examine the issue.”

Toyota announced on Thursday that a software glitch in it’snew braking system is to blame for the problem. Officials for the companydescribed a “disconnect” in the vehicles anti-lock brake system that causesless than one-second of lag; this means that a car moving at 60 mph will travelanother 90 feet before the brakes respond.

Toyota’s managing officer, Hiro Yuki Yokoyama, was asked byreporters whether a recall was in the works and replied “We would want to begiven a little time.”
