by Administrator 30. March 2012 12:22

On Tuesday afternoon in Chicago, a car accident on the Kennedy Expressway involved an NBA basketball player.

Derrick Rose, a pointguard for the Chicago Bulls, was driving his 2011 Bentley on Ogden Avenue when a vehicle struck him from behind. The driver of a 2002 Saturn was unable to reduce his speed in order to avoid the collision. Rose was not injured in the accident.

Police issued a citation to the driver of the Saturn for failing to slow his vehicle. The accident happened on the same day that Rose was fined by the NBA for $25,000.

Chicago ranks 157th out of 200 for best drivers

by Administrator 7. September 2011 15:17

According to Allstate Insurance's annual safest drivers report, Chicago drivers ranked 157th out of the 200 largest cities in the U.S.  Other Illinois cities included Joliet at 96th, Aurora at 112th, and Naperville at 125th.

On average, drivers in Chicago are involved in an accident every 7.7 years.  An Allstate spokesperson in Chicago stated, "We don't want drivers in Chicago to be discouraged by their ranking.  Instead, we want the report to challenge drivers in Chicago to make positive changes to their driving habbits that will in turn make the city a safer place to live, work and raise families."

Chicago moved up 10 spots on the list from 167th last year.  Fort Collins, Colorado ranked 1st on Allstate's safest drivers report for the second year in a row.

Nearly 1 in 5 drivers admit to web use in car

by Administrator 16. March 2011 09:01

According to an online survey conducted by car insurance provider State Farm, nearly 1 in every 5 drivers admits to using the internet on their phone while driving.  More than 19 percent of survey respondents said that they use the web on their phone while in on the road at least once a week.

912 licensed drivers participated in State Farm's survey.  74 percent of survey participants said that they have made or received a phone call while driving at least once a week.  Furthermore, 35 percent said that they send or receive a text message while driving at least once a week.

Considering the increasing number of distractions available to drivers, Transporation Secretary Ray LaHood is making an effort to prevent distractions from coming into play on the road.  Last year, 30 states enacted legislation to prohibit texting while driving and 8 others enacted legislation making texting while driving illegal for beginner drivers and teens.
