Brain injuries versus concussions

Car accidents are the leading cause of head and brain injuries like concussions, mild traumatic brain injuries, and traumatic brain injuries.  There are a few differences between these types of injuries that it is important for victims of car accidents to be aware of when consulting with a physician or lawyer.

MTBIs differ from TBIs in that they are not considered life-threatening and do not require immediate surgery.  MTBIs are somtimes referred to as concussions.  Within the diagnosis of a concussion, there are three different grades.  Grade 1 and 2 concussions are less serious and do not involve a loss of consciousness, whereas grade 3 concussions implicate a loss of consciousness.

It is important for car accident victims to be aware of the symptoms related to head injuries like concussions because they can be hard to diagnose using brain imaging tests like CT scans or MRIs.  Symptoms of MTBIs and concussions include headaches, fatigue, nausea, confusion, dizziness, amnesia, ringing in the ears, vision impairment, and more.
