1 Killed, 1 Injured in Rural IL Accident

One man was killed and another injured in a traffic accidentin rural Makanda. The accident occurred around 4:30 Monday afternoon on GiantCity Road a few miles south of Touch of Nature Road.

Jackson County police said that 22 year-old Matthew Knipe,of Carbondale, was approaching a construction zone where a motorcycle wasstopped. Knipe failed to slow down and collided with the motorcycle.

28 year-old Omar Wilson, the driver of the motorcycle, wastransported to Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where he later died from hisinjuries.  A construction workerwas also injured in the accident. He was treated at the scene.  

Knipe has been issued a citation for failure to reduce speedto avoid an accident. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Department continues toinvestigate the accident.
