$20.5 Million Awarded in Medical Malpractice Case

by Administrator 26. November 2008 12:11
Earlier this week a jury in Lackawanna County, Pennsylvania awarded a family $20.5 million in a medical malpractice case. The lawsuit was filed by a family who's son suffered severe birth injuries the day he was born.  The boy's mother went to the hospital before her due date because she believed that there was something wrong with her unborn child.  While she was attended to quickly by nurses, it took nearly two hours for an obstetrician to attend to her.  During this period of time, the unborn child suffered serious oxygen deprivation. Additionally, the obstetrician decided to induce labor that day, resulting in further injuries to the child.  The boy, who is now 7-years-old, suffers from cerebral palsy, severe neurological disorders, is almost completely blind, and is mentally retarded.
