This monday evening, a fatal plane accident occurred just outside of Chicago. The plane was carrying an elderly couple from West Palm Beach, Florida hoping to try to move closer to family in Chicago, a flight paramedic, and 2 pilots.
According to officials, the plane crashed a little before 11 p.m., around 5 miles from its destination -- Chicago Executive Airport. The plane involved in the accident was a twin-engine Piper Navajo. After arriving at the scene of the accident, emergency crews put out a small fire from the crash and helped the passengers out of the aircraft.
The 80-year old grandfather on the flight was taken to Advocate Lutheran General Medical Center in Park Ridge, where he later passed away. The man's wife, 75, and one of the pilots were pronounced dead at the scene of the accident.
The plane's owner, Trans North Aviation, reported that the plane passed safety inspections earlier in the day before it took off. The Federal Aviation Administration is still investigation what caused the plane to crash.
Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims' families and friends.
