Barber Shop and Haircut Accidents

by Administrator 5. June 2009 14:59

As children, many of us are terrified of a trip to the barber shop. After all, who in their right minds would let a stranger chop away with razor-sharp instruments that close to their face?

Most people get over this fear soon enough, and as adults, even see haircuts as a chance to sport a new look or “reinvent” oneself. However, safe as most trips to your local barber shop or beauty salon are, there may still be something to that old childhood phobia. While no one necessarily expects a barber to lop an ear off, the plain truth is that accidents can happen in any setting.

Perhaps the biggest danger in haircut setting is that of a slipping accident. Someone wielding a pair of scissors is a potential threat to those around them in the event of a misstep. We tend to forget that hair on an already slick floor surface such as linoleum can easily cause a slip if the stylist moves too quickly or loses his or her footing.

Other concerns include trip hazards from extension cords or other objects on the floor for customer and stylist alike. Poor sterilization techniques for all types of hairstyle equipment may also contribute to the transmission of illnesses.
