Monday ended the month of May and Motorcycle Awareness Month, but Chicago Police hope their Memorial Day message inspired both motorcyclists and drivers to always remember to take the appropriate precautions when driving.

Chicago police departments came together for a driving safety course to improve their driving skills and hopefully inspire the community to do the same.  WGN correspondent Tom Negovan joined, a motorcyclist himself, to learn more and practice on their test course.  Negovan was involved in a motorcycle crash last September and had not ridden since his accident, until Monday.  Negovan stated, "years of riding and two safety courses couldn't have saved me from a crash that wrote-off my bike and nearly ended my life". 

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration describes the "textbook" motorcycle crash as happening at intersections where a vehicle that cannot see the motorcyclist cuts them off, usually when turning left. 

 In 2008, and estimated 96,000 motorcyclists were injured while driving.
