Jensen Farms in Colorado recently issued a recall of their cantaloupes, sold in Illinois and 23 other states. The cantaloupes from the farm were found to be contaminated with listeria and have been linked to at least 21 deaths. None of the fatalities were in Illinois.
109 people have reported that they have become ill with literiosis, according to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Officials expect the number of deaths and illness will continue to rise due to the delayed symptoms of listeriosis. Symtpoms of listeriosis like fever, muscle aches, headache, and digestive problems can take up to 2 months to appear.
Cantaloupes should be removed from store shelves, but consumers can identify the recalled product by stickers that say either "Colorado Grown," "Sweet Rocky Fords," "Jensenfarms.com," or "Distributed by Frontera Produce."
