According to statistics from State Farm, Illinois has the second-most dog bite claims of any state in the country.  The only state with more dog bite injury claims is California.

In addition, Illinois also ranked second for total payouts related to dog bite claims.  State Farm received 317 dog bite claims from Illinois residents in 2010 and paid out $9.7 million in insurance to victims of dog bites.  Last year, two people were killed from dog bites in the state.

Nationwide, State Farm received 3,500 dog bite claims and paid out $90 million to victims of dog bites last year.  Insurance experts estimate that a total of $412 million in insurance is paid to dog bite victims every year.
