A Nappanee mother was killed in a car accident over theThanksgiving holiday.

Illinois State Police say 32-year-old Heather Mattern was on her way back froma long Thanksgiving weekend with her two sons when she fell asleep at the wheeland slowly drifted into oncoming traffic. Mattern was pronounced dead at the scene, but her two children, atwo-year-old boy and 4-month-old boy survived with minor injuries.

Mattern was killed by the last set of wheels of asemi-truck. The driver of the semi says he did his best to avoid the vehicle.
