Last Thursday evening, 8 people were injured in a 3-vehicle car accident in Chicago's Chatham neighborhood.

The accident occurred when a Gresham District police officer attempted to pull over a Pontiac SUV near Indiana Avenue and 80th Street because officers believed the vehicle was carrying weapons.  The SUV sped away from the police vehicle and struck an unmarked police vehicle that was traveling westbound on 83rd Street.

The suspect's vehicle continued driving and struck another vehicle that was in the eastbound lanes of 83rd.  Four people in the eastbound vehicle, a police officer in the unmarked police vehicle, and 3 people in the SUV were injured in the accident.

4 people were taken to Stroger Hospital and and Northwestern Memorial Hospital in serious-to-critical condition.  The other 4 injured people were treated at various hospitals and were listed as being in fair-to-serious condition.
