An accident on the Tri-State Tollway Tuesday morning involving two semi-trailers and a delivery truck resulted in serious injuries for three of those involved.

The smaller two-axle truck was apparently sandwiched between the 18-wheelers while traveling northbound on the tollway. Investigators are still trying to determine what exactly caused the crash, which ended with the driver and two passengers of the delivery struck being taken to Advocate Lutheran General Hospital.

A thorough safety inspection should reveal whether equipment or mechanical violations on any of the vehicles might have played a role. If not, police say they will look into the possibility of driver error.
