North Carolina Attorney General Roy Cooper has announced plans to file a public nuisance lawsuit on behalf of the state against the Tennessee Valley Authority. Although North Carolina has passed laws intended to reduce harmful emissions, experts claim that smoke blown upwind from coal-burning plants in Alabama, Tennessee and Kentucky is affecting the air quality of the state. The suit is being filed TVA has allegedly not taken adequate action to address the pollution created by its plants. The first hearing for the lawsuit will be held in Asheville on Monday.
