The Danger of Salmonella and Salmonellosis
People may not be aware of it, but whenever they eat food they face the risk of food poisoning, especially if they eat at a restaurant or eat processed foods. (Even if they cook their own food they face this risk, though they can better take the necessary steps to reduce its likelihood). One source of risk is the bacterium salmonella.
Symptoms of Salmonellosis
People who have been infected by salmonella can develop the disease salmonellosis. The symptoms of salmonellosis include diarrhea, vomiting, and stomach cramps, which develop twelve to 72 hours after eating the contaminated food and last for about four to seven days. Most of the time, symptoms go away by themselves. People should note, however, that salmonellosis can lead to death, or it can even lead to Reiter’s syndrome, which can cause problems urinating, problems with eyes, and joint problems.
