What Is Tort?
A tort is a lawsuit that allows the plaintiff to address a grievance with the defendant even if they are not bound by contract. For example, even though a homeowner may not have any official contracts with his neighbors promising not to damage their property, he can still be held responsible if he does so. Tort law is generally based on the idea that people have an assumed obligation not to hurt one another.
